The drive
PVR to Punta Mita, around the north shore
Punta Mita is the headland at the far northern end of Banderas Bay, 25.2 miles from the PVR terminal and about 45 min without traffic. It is the longest of the regular transfers from the airport, and the one that crosses the most ground.
The first part is MEX-200, the coast highway, heading north. 3.7 miles out it crosses the Ameca River into Nayarit, then runs through Mezcales and Bucerías, where the highway doubles as the towns' main street and picks up their traffic.
Past Bucerías the route leaves MEX-200 for the branch road west toward the peninsula, follows a bypass, and finishes on the Punta de Mita road out to the tip. The last stretch is the quiet one: fewer junctions, the bay on one side, and the resorts' own entrance roads leading off it.

What a Punta Mita transfer costs
The price is for the vehicle, whoever is in it. At around 25 miles this is one of the two long transfers from PVR, so the vehicle choice moves the price more than it does on the short runs into town.
A round trip is twice the one-way price. The return is booked against your departure flight, not a clock time we guess at.

The peninsula
The village and the resorts share one name
"Punta Mita" covers two quite different places, and it is worth knowing which one you are going to. One is the village of Punta de Mita, on the water at the end of the road, with its beach, its restaurants and the boats that go out from it. The other is the resort development on the headland: hotels, golf and private residences, much of it laid out along its own internal roads.
For the village, a street address is enough. For the resort side, the property's exact name matters more than any address, because several properties sit inside private developments with their own entrances, and the entrance is where the name gets checked.
If you are renting a residence rather than staying at a hotel, send the residence name, the development it is in and the contact who will let the car through. It saves a stop at the entrance on the way in.

Nayarit
Another state, the same time
Punta Mita is in Nayarit, not Jalisco, and most of Nayarit runs an hour behind Puerto Vallarta. The peninsula does not. It is part of the municipality of Bahía de Banderas, which Mexico's federal time-zone law keeps on Central time, the same as the airport.
In practice: the time on your flight, the time on your hotel booking and the time we give for a pickup all agree, and no one needs to adjust anything on arrival.
At PVR
Out of the terminal and onto the road north
The driver waits outside the arrivals exit with a sign showing your name. Between baggage claim and that exit are desks — the airport operator's own list includes timeshare companies — and none of them is ours, so walk past them.
We track the flight, and the first 60 minutes after landing are free; the drive to Punta Mita starts only when you are in the car.
Going home
Leaving Punta Mita for a flight
Forty-five minutes is the drive with the road empty. The part that varies is the middle, where MEX-200 runs through Bucerías and Mezcales and shares the road with everything else on the north shore, and the approach to the airport.
Work back from the airline's check-in and bag-drop cutoff, add the drive, then add a margin for that middle stretch. Tell us the flight number and time and we will suggest a pickup time with the margin already in it.
The price does not change with the pickup time. Leaving earlier costs nothing extra.
Luggage
Golf bags, surfboards and families
People come to Punta Mita for golf and for surf as much as for the beach, and both arrive in bags that seats do not show. A set of golf clubs takes the room of a large suitcase; a surfboard bag needs length that a standard SUV may not have.
Tell us what you are bringing, not just how many people. For a family with sports bags, or two couples traveling together, a Sprinter is often simpler than two SUVs, and on a transfer this long the difference in price between the two is small.
