The metro area
Five areas, and an airport south of all of them
Guadalajara is a metropolitan area of several municipalities, and the places visitors stay are spread across three of them. In Guadalajara proper there is the Centro, around the Cathedral; Chapultepec and the Colonia Americana just west of it, with their restaurants and bars along Avenida Chapultepec; and Providencia further northwest. Zapopan, a separate municipality, holds the Andares business and shopping district. Tlaquepaque, another, is the old crafts town southeast of the center.
The airport is outside all of them. Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, which runs it, places it south of the city on the Guadalajara–Chapala road, 15 kilometers north of Chapala. So Tlaquepaque, on the south side of the city, is the shortest ride, and Zapopan, across the city in the northwest, the longest.

Traffic
Free-flow, and the city's own numbers
The times in the grid are free-flow: the drive with the roads clear. The airport operator itself gives the transfer from the city center as 35 minutes, and TomTom's 2025 Traffic Index puts Guadalajara's average rush-hour speed at 17.4 km/h, with a 10 km drive taking 28 min 18 s on average.
So we plan pickups, especially for departures, from the flight backward with the traffic in mind. The price does not move with the traffic.
Arriving at GDL
Two terminals, one meeting point
GAP lists 2 terminals at GDL. We read yours from the flight number, so you do not need to tell us, and the driver waits outside that terminal's arrivals exit with a sign showing your name.
We track the flight, so an early or late landing moves the pickup, and the first 60 minutes after the aircraft is on the ground are free. That covers immigration, customs and the baggage belts on an international arrival.

Other options
The airport taxis, and the difference
The airport's own ground-transportation listing names airport taxi services, at desks in the arrivals area, open 24 hours. They are the official way to get a car on arrival without booking one.
A pre-booked driver differs in two ways: the price is agreed before you fly, whatever the traffic, and someone is waiting for you at the exit rather than at the end of a queue at a desk.
Beyond the city
The lake, the agave country and the coast
Three trips out of Guadalajara have their own pages. Lake Chapala is due south, past the airport: Ajijic is 27.6 miles from GDL. Tequila is west, 42.1 miles from the Cathedral, and is a day hire rather than a transfer. And Puerto Vallarta is on the coast, 196.2 miles away on the toll highways.
