Where we drive in Cancún and the Riviera Maya
Private Cancun airport transportation runs from CUN to the Hotel Zone, Costa Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Akumal and Tulum, booked in advance at a fixed price for the whole vehicle.
Almost every trip starts or ends at Cancun International Airport. Where you are going decides the vehicle more than anything else, because the coast runs about eighty miles from Costa Mujeres in the north to Tulum in the south on one main highway. A group heading to Tulum is in the car far longer than a couple going to the Hotel Zone, and the quote reflects that.
Hotel Zone addresses are kilometer markers rather than street numbers. Two properties with similar names can sit miles apart, so give the kilometer marker or the full hotel name when you book.
Resorts we drive to regularly give a sense of the spread: Riu and Royalton properties in the Hotel Zone, Moon Palace and Margaritaville south of it, Atelier Playa Mujeres up in Costa Mujeres, Excellence Riviera Cancún and Valentin Imperial around Puerto Morelos, Grand Riviera Princess and Royal Hideaway Playacar in Playa del Carmen, and Secrets Akumal further south. If your hotel is not on that list it is almost certainly still on the same highway.

Pickup
Cancun Airport (CUN) pickups and terminals
Your driver meets you outside the arrivals exit, holding a sign with your name on it. The exact meeting spot is in your booking confirmation.
Cancun handles international arrivals across more than one terminal, and which one you land at depends on your airline. The terminals are far enough apart that meeting at the wrong one costs real time, so the terminal on your confirmation is the single most useful thing to get right when you book.
We track your inbound flight. If the plane is late, the pickup moves with it and the delay costs nothing. Waiting is free for 60 minutes after your flight lands — the hour runs from landing, not from when you clear customs, and immigration and baggage at Cancun can take a while at peak arrival times.
Four things make a booking go smoothly: the flight number, the terminal, the full name of the hotel and the number of bags. The flight number is what the tracking runs on. The hotel name matters more than the street address here, because many properties share a highway kilometer marker and the driver needs the name to get through a gated entrance. The bag count decides the vehicle more often than the passenger count does.
For the return leg, the driver collects you from the hotel entrance at the time on your confirmation, so there is no meeting point to find. Tulum and Akumal departures need an earlier start than Hotel Zone ones for the same flight.

CUN vs TQO
Fly into Cancún (CUN) or Tulum (TQO)?
Tulum has its own airport now, Felipe Carrillo Puerto (TQO), which changes the math if Tulum is your destination. CUN has far more flights, more airlines and more daily departures, so it is usually the cheaper and more flexible ticket — but it is the long end of the drive.
TQO is close to Tulum and a short transfer once you land, at the cost of a thinner flight schedule. If the fare difference is small and your whole stay is in Tulum, flying into TQO removes the longest drive on this coast. If you are splitting your time between Tulum and anywhere north of Playa del Carmen, CUN usually still wins.

What Cancun airport transportation costs
The price is per vehicle, not per person. Two passengers or seven in the same Suburban pay the same total. That is the opposite of a shared shuttle or any per-seat service, and for a family or a group it is usually why the numbers favor a private car.
Three things move the price: how far you are going, which vehicle you need, and when you are traveling. Distance does most of the work, and vehicle size does most of the rest.
Tolls are included in the price you are quoted. Tips are not included, and are at your discretion. Child seats are free — request them when you book so the seat is fitted before the driver leaves.

The vehicle follows the group and the luggage. In Cancun the luggage usually decides it: a week at an all-inclusive means full-size cases, and four adults with four large bags do not fit a sedan however well the seat count works.

Popular routes from Cancun airport
These are the transfers we run most often out of CUN. Each is a different length of drive and a different conversation about vehicle size.
Cancun Airport to the Hotel Zone is the shortest and most common. Cancun Airport to Playa del Carmen is the busiest of the longer runs. Cancun Airport to Tulum is the longest we do regularly.
Cancun Airport to Puerto Morelos and Cancun Airport to Costa Mujeres sit closer in, in opposite directions. Cancun Airport to Akumal is south of Puerto Aventuras and usually an SUV booking because of the distance.
Groups
Weddings and groups
A wedding is a different problem from a single transfer: several vehicles needed at once, for one group, often on different days for the rehearsal and the ceremony.
Guests arrive on many flights across two or three days, and each arrival is booked as its own transfer with its own flight tracked. Several vehicles can sit on one reservation, so the whole party is handled as one booking rather than thirty.
Coaches seat up to 55, which covers most guest shuttles between a resort and a venue in one vehicle. Above that the group splits across two, and both are booked together.
Arrange group transport weeks out rather than days. It is the combination of vehicles at one time that becomes hard to find, not any single car. Wedding transportation in Cancún covers the shuttle loops and venue detail.
When to book
When to book ahead
Book at least 24 hours before the pickup to book online. For shorter notice than that, call us and we will tell you what is available. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the pickup; inside 24 hours there is no refund.
There are stretches when 24 hours is not enough to get the vehicle you want. Spring break fills the coast from late February through March, and the larger vehicles go first because that is when groups travel. Christmas and New Year are the same with longer stays and more luggage.
Easter and the Mexican school holidays add domestic travel to the international arrivals and the highway south gets busier. If you are arriving in one of those windows, book the vehicle when you book the flight.
Outside those periods a day of notice is fine. Booking earlier buys you the specific vehicle you want, not a lower price.

Which option fits
Family of six to Playa del Carmen, Saturday in March
Spring break weekend, six people and six full-size cases. A shared shuttle sells six seats and stops at other hotels first; the luggage alone rules out a sedan. This is an SUV or a Sprinter, booked weeks ahead because March is when the larger vehicles go first.
Two people to the Hotel Zone, late arrival
A couple landing after 11pm with two cases. The shortest run on the coast and the one where the drop-off address matters most — give the kilometer marker. A sedan fits, and the 60 minutes of free waiting covers a slow immigration queue.
Wedding party arriving across three days
Thirty guests on a dozen different flights. Each arrival is its own transfer with its own flight tracked, all on one reservation, plus a coach for the shuttle loop between resort and venue on the day.
One traveler to Tulum with a tight connection
The longest regular transfer from CUN. Worth comparing a CUN ticket against flying into Tulum's own airport, TQO — if the whole stay is in Tulum and the fares are close, TQO shortens the transfer to a few minutes.
