The city
Five parts of the city most visitors stay in
Mexico City is enormous, but the places most visitors sleep fall into a handful of neighborhoods. The Centro Histórico, around the Zócalo, is the old core. Roma and Condesa, to the southwest, are the leafy, walkable colonias of cafés and restaurants. Paseo de la Reforma is the grand avenue of hotels and offices running from the center toward Chapultepec. Polanco, north of the park, is the upmarket district of hotels, galleries and restaurants. And Santa Fe, far out to the west, is the modern business district.
MEX sits on the east side of the city, so the Centro is the shortest ride and Santa Fe — on the opposite edge — the longest. The second airport, AIFA, is well outside the city to the north, and everything is a long way from it.
From MEX, without traffic
- Centro Histórico
- 5.6 miles, about 15 min.
- Roma / Condesa
- 8.6 miles, about 20 min.
- Reforma
- 9.8 miles, about 20 min.
- Polanco
- 12.0 miles, about 20 min.
- Santa Fe
- 16.4 miles, about 30 min.
Prices
Mexico City airport transportation prices by zone
One price for the whole vehicle, fixed when you book. The grid is priced from MEX, using whichever of its two terminals is farther from each zone, so your quote never comes in above it for the terminal you land at.
Traffic does not change the price. In this city that matters more than anywhere else we drive.
| Zone | Miles | Free-flow time | Premium SUV | Executive SUV | Sprinter Executive | Motor Coach |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Centro Histórico | 5.6 | about 15 min | $160 | $190 | $450 | $985 |
| Roma / Condesa | 8.6 | about 20 min | $175 | $205 | $465 | $1,005 |
| Reforma | 9.8 | about 20 min | $180 | $210 | $470 | $1,015 |
| Polanco | 12.0 | about 20 min | $185 | $220 | $480 | $1,030 |
| Santa Fe | 16.4 | about 30 min | $205 | $240 | $500 | $1,055 |
Traffic
Every time on these pages is a free-flow estimate: the drive with the roads empty. Mexico City's roads are rarely empty.
TomTom's Traffic Index for 2025 puts the average speed in Mexico City's rush hour at 13.5 km/h — about 8 miles an hour — and the average time for a 10 km drive at 34 min 29 s. At those speeds a free-flow twenty minutes can become an hour or more.
So we plan pickups from the flight time backward with the traffic in mind, not from the free-flow figure. The price, fixed when you book, stays the same however long the drive takes.
Two airports
Mexico City has two commercial airports. MEX — Benito Juárez International — is inside the city, on its east side. AIFA — Felipe Ángeles International — is north of the city, in the State of Mexico, and is reached by toll highway. Your ticket says which one; they are not interchangeable, and they are far apart.
The difference is distance. From MEX the central neighborhoods are five to twelve miles away; from AIFA they are around twenty-six to twenty-eight, and Santa Fe is more than thirty-five. If you have a choice of airport, that gap is worth weighing against the fare.
Each airport has its own page, with the terminals, the pickup points and the prices from that airport.
| Zone | From MEX | From AIFA |
|---|---|---|
| Centro Histórico | 5.6 | 26.1 |
| Roma / Condesa | 8.6 | 27.8 |
| Reforma | 9.8 | 25.9 |
| Polanco | 12.0 | 27.9 |
| Santa Fe | 16.4 | 35.6 |
Why a private driver
The UK government's travel advice for Mexico is specific about taxis. It warns that "unlicensed taxi drivers have robbed and assaulted passengers, including in Mexico City", and advises using regulated sitio taxis from authorized ranks, a taxi ordered by your hotel, or, at airports, only authorized pre-paid airport taxis.
Both airports provide those authorized taxis: MEX sells tickets from booths in its arrivals areas, and AIFA lists 11 authorized taxi companies. At AIFA, app-based taxis can drop off but cannot pick up, because the airport is federal land.
A pre-booked private driver is the other way to settle the question before you fly: a known vehicle, a fixed price agreed in advance, and a driver waiting at a named meeting point when you come out.
The official options, by airport
- MEX
- Authorized taxi booths in the arrivals areas.
- AIFA
- 11 authorized taxi companies; no app pickups.
- Pre-booked
- A private driver, price fixed before you fly.
Meeting point
At MEX, the driver waits outside the arrivals exit of your terminal, with a sign showing your name. The airport sends arriving passengers out through different halls depending on the terminal and where the flight came from; we set the meeting point from your flight number, so you do not need to work it out.
At AIFA, the airport assigns private-car pickups to Level 1, Arrivals, doors 1 to 4, and that is where the driver meets you.
We track the flight, and the first 60 minutes after landing are free. The airport itself says passengers take 20 to 50 minutes to come out after a domestic landing and 30 to 60 minutes after an international one — so the free hour is there for exactly that.
Hotels
The Grand Fiesta Americana Chapultepec, on Calzada General Mariano Escobedo in Anzures, comes from completed bookings — an arrival from MEX and the departure back to it.
Every other hotel and address in the city is quoted the same way, from its name and street address. Anzures sits next to Polanco, and the two are often confused; the street address settles it.
Pages
Airports, transfers and day trips
The two airports, the longer transfers and the day trip to the pyramids each have their own page.
Booking
The flight number, which airport, the hotel or street address, and how many people and bags.
Tolls are part of the price — the roads to AIFA, Santa Fe, Puebla and Teotihuacan all use toll highways. In Mexico City a tip is your choice, a child seat costs nothing if you request it, and cancellations are free more than 24 hours before pickup.
Frequently Asked Questions
MEX, Benito Juárez, which is inside the city. AIFA, Felipe Ángeles, is north of the city in the State of Mexico, around 26 to 36 miles from the main neighborhoods.
12 miles, about 20 min with no traffic. In rush hour, much longer.
They are free-flow times, with the roads empty. TomTom's 2025 Traffic Index puts Mexico City's average rush-hour speed at 13.5 km/h, so real times are often far longer. The price does not change.
Per vehicle. The quoted total covers everyone, as long as they and the luggage fit.
Outside the arrivals exit of your terminal, with a sign showing your name. We set the exact point from your flight.
Not for a pickup. AIFA says app taxis can drop off but cannot pick up there, because it is federal land. Authorized taxis and pre-booked cars can.
A taxi is chosen and paid for after you land. A Mexico City airport transfer booked ahead is priced for the whole vehicle before you fly, with the flight tracked, so a delay costs nothing. Transportation from Mexico City airport to hotel lobbies in Polanco, Roma or Santa Fe is priced by zone in the table above.
Yes. The highways to AIFA, Santa Fe, Puebla and Teotihuacan are toll roads, and any toll used is inside the quoted price.
We track it, so the pickup moves with the aircraft. Waiting is free for 60 minutes after landing.
