The drive
Guadalajara to the coast, through Nayarit
Puerto Vallarta's old town is 196.2 miles from Guadalajara's Cathedral, about 3 hr 50 free-flow. Almost all of it is toll highway, and the tolls are included in the price.
The route leaves the city west on MEX-15 and takes MEX-15D, the Guadalajara–Tepic toll road, past the agave country around Tequila. At Jala it turns off onto the newer toll highways toward the coast, through Compostela and Las Varas in Nayarit, and then south on MEX-200D to Puerto Vallarta, finishing on MEX-200 into town.

The highway reaches the bay from the north, so Nuevo Vallarta, in Nayarit, comes first and the old town of Puerto Vallarta last. The price follows where you are staying. Punta Mita and Sayulita, further round the bay, are quoted the same way; the Puerto Vallarta page gives their distances.

At the coast
The Puerto Vallarta end

The clock does not change on the way. Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta are both on Central time, and Nuevo Vallarta, in Nayarit, keeps Central time too under the federal time-zone law.
Two states
Out of Jalisco and back again
The route leaves Jalisco and spends much of its length in Nayarit: Jala, where it leaves MEX-15D, and Compostela are both Nayarit towns. It comes back into Jalisco at the very end, crossing the Ameca River just north of Puerto Vallarta's airport.
Nothing about the trip changes at either line: the price is fixed, the tolls are included, and the clock stays on Central time throughout. The only thing to watch is your hotel's address, which on the Nayarit side of the bay may give the state as Nayarit rather than Jalisco.

Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara
The same trip in reverse is priced the same way, from your hotel on the bay to your address in Guadalajara. It also works from the airport: from Puerto Vallarta's airport, PVR, the drive to the Cathedral is 190.3 miles, so a flight into PVR can end at a hotel in Guadalajara the same day.

Stops on a four-hour drive
Four hours is long enough for a stop, and the route passes near Tequila early on. A meal, a rest or a short visit can be built into the quote — tell us when you book.
For a day that is more sightseeing than driving, the vehicle can be booked by the hour instead, with a 4-hour minimum.

The slow part is getting out of the city. TomTom's 2025 Traffic Index puts Guadalajara's average rush-hour speed at 17.4 km/h, so a start outside the morning peak saves real time. Once on MEX-15D, the highways carry the rest.
From GDL airport instead of the city, the trip is 206.8 miles, taking the Periférico round the south and west of the city to MEX-15.
