PSP to Indio, across the valley
Indio sits 22.3 miles east of Palm Springs airport, about 30 min in ordinary traffic. The road runs the length of the valley, either on Interstate 10 or on Highway 111 through the towns.
It is a short, simple transfer for most of the year. The exception is April, when the festival grounds at the Empire Polo Club are in Indio and the eastern end of the valley fills up.

La Quinta
La Quinta is the same drive, a little to the south
La Quinta sits just south of the Indio run and is quoted almost identically. It is golf-resort country, and the practical difference is the address rather than the distance: the resorts and rental houses sit inside gated developments found by property name, not by street number.
If your booking says La Quinta, give the resort or the house address. If it says Indio, tell us whether it is the town or the festival grounds, because those are not the same place either.

April
Festival weekends change this trip
For three weekends in April this becomes the busiest short transfer in the valley, because Indio is where Coachella and Stagecoach happen.
Two things change. Book much further ahead than you would otherwise, and expect the roads around the grounds to be managed rather than open — the festival controls where vehicles may stop.

Addresses
Indio the town, and the grounds
Indio is a working city of its own as well as the place the festivals happen, and those are not the same destination. The Empire Polo Club sits on the edge of town; downtown Indio is somewhere else entirely, and so are the rental houses spread across the east valley.
For most of the year that distinction barely matters. For three weekends in April it matters a great deal, because the roads around the grounds are managed and the address you give determines which approach the driver takes.
Give the street address rather than the city. If you are heading to the grounds themselves, say so — it is a different set of rules, not a different distance.

Staying east
Why people stay at this end of the valley
The eastern valley is quieter and cheaper than Palm Springs, and for anything happening at the polo grounds it is simply closer. That combination is why so much of the April demand sits here rather than at the western end.
It is also golf country. La Quinta and Indian Wells hold the courses and the tournament grounds, and a golf trip based here spends less time driving than one based in Palm Springs does.
The trade is distance from the airport and from the Palm Springs restaurants and bars. Twenty-two miles is nothing in a booked car and a real consideration if you were planning to rely on rideshare after dark, which thins out noticeably at this end of the valley.

Leaving Indio for a PSP flight
PSP is a small airport and the drive from Indio is short, which makes this the most forgiving return in the valley — and the one people therefore cut finest.
Allow the about 30 min of driving plus whatever the airline asks for your departure. In April add margin for the traffic around the grounds.

Palm Springs airport is a small one
PSP is unusual among American airports in how quickly you get out of it. Much of it is open-air, the walk from gate to curb is short, and bags arrive faster than at a large hub.
That works in your favor on arrival and against you on departure, because it tempts people to leave too late. The airport being small does not make the check-in cut-off any softer.
