Point to point, or by the hour
Most American work is point to point: an airport run, a meeting, a restaurant. That is quoted on distance and vehicle, and the number is fixed before you travel.
Events are different. A wedding, a festival weekend or a night out holds the vehicle rather than making a journey, so those are quoted by the hour with a four-hour minimum. The driver waits between stops instead of the booking ending at each one.
Both are the same fixed-price-per-vehicle arrangement. Which one you want is usually obvious from the itinerary: if there is a return leg at an unknown time, it is hourly.

American airports vary more than most in how pickups work, and the terminal matters as much as the airport. Large hubs separate arrivals across terminals that are a shuttle ride apart, so a booking without a terminal is a booking with a guess in it.
