Eugene Airport, Mahlon Sweet Field, sits northwest of the city among farmland, and the drive into town is short. Downtown is 9.3 miles away, about 20 min without traffic, most of it on OR-99.

The university
The University of Oregon, Autzen and Hayward
The University of Oregon sets the rhythm of the city. The campus is east of downtown, with Hayward Field — the track and field stadium — at its edge. Autzen Stadium, home of Oregon football, is across the Willamette River to the north, which is why game-day traffic on the river crossings is the thing that slows every trip in town on a Saturday.
Springfield sits just east of Eugene across I-5, a separate city that runs into it, and many visitors stay there.
UO publishes its own parking rules and they are strict: at Autzen, the athletics department says "all lots are reserved" and "a reserved parking pass is required for entry". That makes being dropped off, rather than parking, the practical way in.
