The city
Laredo, downtown to the north side
Laredo runs north from the river along Interstate 35, and the two ends of it feel like different cities. Downtown sits against the border, close to the older bridges and the historic center around San Agustín Plaza. North Laredo is the newer half: the hotels along the interstate, Mall del Norte, and most of the corporate accommodation.
Texas A&M International University sits on the northeastern edge, out past Loop 20, which is a separate trip again from either.
The practical consequence is that a Laredo address needs the street, not the city. Downtown to the north side is a real drive, and a hotel booking that says only "Laredo" could be either.

Airport
Laredo International (LRD)
LRD sits on the northeast side of the city off Bob Bullock Loop, close enough to the north-side hotels to be a short transfer and far enough from downtown to be a real one.
It is a small airport with a handful of daily flights, mostly regional connections. That matters when things go wrong: a missed connection here is not a case of waiting for the next one in two hours, and it is why some travelers fly into San Antonio and drive down instead.
