Cabo San Lucas is 26.1 miles from the airport, about 40 min without traffic. Because SJD sits at the San José end of the cape, this is the long transfer: it runs the whole Tourist Corridor on MEX 1 before reaching the town.
The last part is the slow part. Downtown San Lucas around the marina is dense and busy, and the drive through town to a hotel on the far side can take a noticeable share of the trip in the evening.

San Lucas splits into areas that are close on a map and slow to cross in the evening.
Medano Beach is the swimmable beach on the bay side, lined with resorts and the busiest stretch of sand on the cape. The marina is the center of town, restaurants and nightlife around the harbor. Pedregal is the gated hillside neighborhood above the marina, reached by its own road. The Pacific side, west of town, faces open ocean rather than the bay.

The rock arch at Land's End, El Arco, is reached by water taxi from the marina rather than by road, so it is not a transfer destination — but it is why the marina is busy from morning.
Cabo San Lucas is also a cruise port, with ships anchoring in the bay and passengers coming ashore by tender into the marina. On a cruise day the streets around the harbor fill up, and a pickup or drop-off near the water takes longer. If your trip falls on a ship day, allow for it.

Leaving San Lucas for your flight
This is the return people misjudge most on the cape, because the drive in felt quick and the drive back runs the length of the Corridor on a deadline.
Work back from the airline's check-in cut-off. Allow the about 40 min of driving, time to get out of town if you are near the marina, then the time the airline asks for an international departure. Add margin on a weekend, when most visitors fly out together and SJD's security lines are at their longest.

Getting around San Lucas once you are there
The marina and the streets immediately around it are walkable, and most evenings in the center need no car at all. The problem is the edges: Medano Beach resorts at the far end of the bay, Pedregal up the hill and the Pacific-side properties are all a drive from the harbor, and the walk back up Pedregal at night is not one anyone does twice.
For a dinner or a night out from one of those, a booked return is simpler than finding a taxi on the marina at closing time, when everyone else is trying to do the same thing.
