Where it is
North of the city, in the State of Mexico
AIFA is not in Mexico City at all. Its official address is Circuito Exterior Mexiquense km 33, Santa Lucía, Zumpango, State of Mexico, well north of the city limits in the neighboring state.
That is the whole reason it is farther. MEX sits inside the city on its east side; AIFA sits beyond the northern suburbs. From AIFA the central neighborhoods are about twenty-six to twenty-eight miles away and Santa Fe more than thirty-five, against five to sixteen from MEX.
The route in leaves on the airport's own access road and joins the México–Pachuca toll highway, MEX-85D, before entering the city on Avenida Insurgentes Norte. AIFA lists the Circuito Exterior Mexiquense, the México–Pachuca highway, the free road to Tonanitla as the roads that serve it.

Pickup
The official pickup point
AIFA assigns private-car pickups to Level 1, Arrivals, doors 1 to 4, and drop-offs to Level 3, Departures, doors 1 to 4. That is where the driver meets you, with a sign showing your name. We track the flight, and the first 60 minutes after landing are free.
App-based taxis are a different story here. AIFA says they can drop passengers off but cannot pick them up, because the airport is federal land. For a ride from AIFA, the options are the 11 authorized taxi companies the airport lists, public transport, or a car booked in advance.
Traffic
Free-flow is the best case
The times in the grid are free-flow: forty to fifty-five minutes with the roads clear. The last part of every route is inside the city, and TomTom's 2025 Traffic Index puts Mexico City's average rush-hour speed at 13.5 km/h. Arriving or leaving at peak hours can take far longer.
For a departure from AIFA, work back from the airline's check-in cutoff, then add the drive with a margin for the city. We plan the pickup that way, and the price stays fixed.

Some of them also fly from MEX, so check which airport your ticket names — the two are a long way apart.
The train
The train, and when a car makes more sense
AIFA is also connected by the Tren Felipe Ángeles, which runs to Buenavista in the city. AIFA gives the journey as about 60 minutes for now, coming down to 43 minutes.
For one traveler with a backpack going somewhere near Buenavista, that can be the simplest answer. With luggage, children or a group — or a hotel in Polanco, Santa Fe or anywhere else far from the station — a car from the terminal door to the hotel door saves the change at the other end.
