The route leaves the airport on Griffin Road, then runs 19.6 miles south on I-95 to I-395, and goes under the channel through the PortMiami Tunnel, which the port describes as a dedicated, toll-free route onto the island.
It is a straight run with one variable: I-95 through Broward and northern Miami-Dade, which is where the time goes on a busy morning.

Flying into Fort Lauderdale for a Miami sailing
Miami International is the closer airport: its farthest terminal run is 9.6 miles against 26.6 from FLL. Cruise parties still fly into Fort Lauderdale for the fares or the schedule, and the extra miles are a fixed, known part of the quote rather than a surprise on the day.

The driver waits outside your terminal's arrivals exit with a sign carrying the group's name, and takes everyone to where the vehicle is allowed to stand. Every flight in the party is tracked, and the first 60 minutes after landing are free.
